PEOPLE ARE OBJECTS
In collaboration with Suraj Katra, Hong Kong 2015
‘Don't keep your eyes only on your mobile phone’ is an announcement on the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) in Hong Kong. It is actually said for safety reasons. But what will happen if we really start looking around, be more conscious about our environment, and give a stranger a smile for once?
As individuals sometimes we are vigorously involved in crafting an image of ourselves of who we would like to be or who we think we are. We are in control of what we post and like, which information we receive, and to what we respond. Are we losing touch with our surroundings or are we actually becoming more part of it? Are we starting to behave like objects?
This social photography experiment is testing the awareness of Hongkongers and is a statement to stand up against forfeiting our human nature. The aim is to encourage everyone to be more connected to the outside world rather than merely being transported from one place to another.
*none of the objects and subjects have been photoshopped and none of them have been staged.
